I create user-centered digital experiences for web apps, mobile apps, and connected devices. Using research driven design techniques and agile methodologies, I craft products and services that balance thoughtful interactivity with powerful visuals. I excel at 0-1 product initiatives and leading design teams.

With over a decade in the creative industry, I've had the pleasure of working with highly visible brands including: LinkedIn, Coursera, Hewlett Packard, eBay, EMC, TriNet, ExactTarget, Bloomberg, The SF Giants, and numerous early and mid stage startups.

How I approach digital product design

Business critical design

I’ve spent the last several years as a non-embedded horizontal designer working on business-critical projects that span multiple product verticals. I generally work with design directors and lead design teams delivering on challenging and ambitious goals with multiple stakeholders.

Simplifying complexity

I love working with teams to untangle tough problems. Design is at its most exciting when we have the opportunity to illustrate a frictionless story of simplicity while confronting complicated, ambiguous, and technically challenging projects. Projects like these are what motivate me as a designer.

Strategic partnerships

I think of myself first and foremost as a strategic partner. Design without a comprehensive understanding of strategy and business objectives is just polished pixels. I enjoy working with cross-functional teams to advance strategies and show how design can help win!

Design influence

I’ve learned that a great technical idea is only as good as one’s ability to help others see the opportunity and invest in the solution. Partnering with product and engineering leaders, I excel at helping to evangelize our team’s ideas and getting buy-in from important stakeholders to make sure our work succeeds.

Other things I’m passionate about

A growth mindset

Throughout my career, I’ve continuously tried to be better at what I do. I’m a huge believer in a growth mindset and lifelong learning. I don’t watch much tv, I love reading and podcasts and I get really excited when I meet people that are as fired up about learning new things as I am.

Mentorship

A handful of senior designers gave me the incredible gift of mentorship as I was beginning my design career. I enjoy working with designers that are earlier in their careers and try to pay it forward whenever I can.

Diversity and inclusion

I had a circuitous path to getting involved in technology and I think this set of experiences has made me a better and more empathetic designer. I believe that the only way to build the next generation of truly impactful products will be by highlighting underrepresented voices.
